Visa options for skilled sponsored workers:

Temporary skill shortage (TSS 482):

Basic Eligibility

  • This temporary visa lets an employer sponsor a suitably skilled worker to fill a position they can’t find a suitably skilled Australian to fill.
  • You should be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor
  • You have the right skills to do the job
  • You meet the relevant English language requirements
Unique features:
  • Workers can only work for you or an associated entity. 
  • Workers must work only in the nominated occupation
  • You can’t change the occupation without a new nomination

Skill or qualification requirements:

  • The worker must have the skills to perform the nominated occupation.
  • The worker must have 2 years of work experience in the occupation or a related field.

Length:

  • It can be granted for 1-4 years.

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (494):

Basic Eligibility

  • This visa enables regional employers to address identified labour shortages.
  • An approved work sponsor should nominate you.
  • You have an occupation on a relevant skilled occupation list.
  • You have a suitable skills assessment for the occupation.
  • You must be under 45 years of age.
  • You meet minimum standards of English language proficiency
Unique features:
  • Work must be in a designated regional area.
  • The employment will be for at least a period of 5 years after the visa grant.
  • You will be eligible for Medicare.

Skill or qualification requirements:

  • Employer-Sponsored stream applicants require a skills assessment (unless exempt).
  • Relevant registration or licensing must be held if required.

Length:

  • It will be granted for 5  years.

Employer Nomination (186):

Basic Eligibility

  • This visa lets skilled workers, who are nominated by their employer, live and work in Australia permanently.
  • You must have the necessary skills for the job.
  • You must be nominated by an Australian employer.
  • You must meet our health and character requirements
Unique features:
  • No geographical restrictions.
  • The employment will be for at least a period of 2 years after the visa grant.

Skill or qualification requirements:

  • Direct Entry stream applicants require a skills assessment (unless exempt).
  • Relevant registration or licensing must be held if required

Length:

  • It is a permanent visa and is for 5 years.

Regional Sponsored (187):

Basic Eligibility

  • This visa allows skilled workers, who are nominated by their employer in regional Australia, to live and work in Australia permanently.
  • You must be nominated by an approved Australian employer for a job in regional Australia.
  • You must be under 45 years of age.
  • You should meet the skills, qualifications, and English language requirements.
Unique features:
  • Work must be in a regional area.
  • The employment will be for at least a period of 2 years after visa grant

Skill or qualification requirements:

  •  Relevant registration or licensing must be held if required

Length:

  • It is a permanent visa and is for 5 years.
